Blackjack Tips

When I started learning the game seriously in 2005, I purchased a few books on how to play and they all said that step number one, was to learn Basic Strategy.  This is a mathematically proven chart created over the past several decades.  Once computers came on the scene, billions of simulations were run and the table was fine tuned.  There are a few different tables based on the type of game being played but the advantage of learning them all is minimal.

Here is the one that I learned:

I learned this table by printing it out without the entries, and then filling them in from memory over and over again.  In addition to this, I found and purchased a great practice program for my palm pilot which is a fantastic practice aid.  It is called BlackJack Counter for Palm.  It can be found at www.handheldblackjack.com.  I use this great tool when I need a refresher and it is also customizable to your needs.  I highly recommend it.

Once I was confident enough I'd had this table memorized, I went out and started playing.  At this point, finding a decent game isn't that critical because you should be playing low limits and practicing BS.  The main games you should try to avoid are those that pay 6:5 on blackjacks, restrictions on doubling down and splitting, and any game that requires an ante bet.  Games you want to play are those with the least amount of decks as possible that don't have the afore mentioned bad rules.
